MATER, a Tribute to the 50° Anniversary of “Earth Day”: A musical meditation and investigation on environmental issues, composed by, one of the most promising new-classical artists, the Italian pianist Olivia Belli.

Italy – Among the most promising Italian new-classic artists, with over 20 million streaming on spotify and 1.5 million monthly listeners, with songs regularly transmitted by BBC 6 Music and KEXP, the debut disc reaches the #1 of the best modern classical album 2018 for solopiano.com Olivia Belli presents MATER, a gift for the 50th anniversary of the Earth Day (April 22, 2020): eight new songs for piano, strings and electronics, coming on May 8, for Memory Recordings.

“MATER is a musical meditation and denunciation on environmental issues; it talks about our Mother Earth, an earth that is suffering and facing huge problems on which we are all required to reflect, and all called to respond to in the first person, in our individual daily lives. I have a great admiration for all those movements like Fridays For Future lead by Greta Thunberg, Earth Alliance by Leonardo DiCaprio, Extinction Rebellion that are asking and fighting for a change and I wanted to give my contribution: I’m a musician and my only way to communicate is through music.” – Olivia Belli

The first single from ‘Mater’, ‘Countdown’, will be released on April 24. To anticipate it a short teaser, conceived and shot before the worldwide emergency Covid-19: https://youtu.be/3GGrvoKtHEY.

“COUNTDOWN is a cry of alarm; time is running out as many scientists now claim; maybe we can still reverse, but we must act, we must change now. In this song there is my anxiety, my concern, my fear about which world we will leave to our children and future generations. All the profits will go to Global Wildlife Conservation whose mission is to conserve the diversity of life on Earth: I chose to donate to this important organization because it works closely in partnership with many global organizations as IUCN, Earth Alliance, KBA etc and so it can allocate funds where it is needed most.” – (OB)

About Olivia Belli

Esteemed Italian, crossover classical pianist and composer, Olivia Belli is often compared to some of the most virtuosic composers – Johann Johansson, Philip Glass, and Max Richter, to name a few, and her accolades appear to be never-ending.

Currently she has over 1.5 Million monthly listeners on Spotify; her latest release, River Path, from January 2020 has accumulated over 20 million streams in the brevity of its lifespan; she is collaborating with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author Ian Urbina on his project, The Outlaw Ocean Music Project.

Belli’s tracks have been chosen for the Starbucks, Spotify and Digster Official Playlist while others have been broadcasted by numerous online and terrestrial radio platforms like BBC 3, BBC 6 Music, Kexp, Classical FM etc. Belli is particularly jazzed by manipulating the sounds that come out of her piano through the use of electronic instruments or incorporation of everyday sounds into her recordings.

Her debut full album Where Night Never Comes was released in October 2018 thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter that chose it as a “Project We Love”. It found great success atop the Modern Classical Chart on ReverbNation and was awarded the 2018 SoloPiano.com’s Best Album Overall.

MATER – composed, recorded and mastered by Olivia and Enrico Belli in their studio in Le Marche (Italy) between June and November 2019 – is based on themes taken from the Stabat Mater of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, who was native to their same region. 8 songs for piano, strings and electronics.

“It’s crucial moment for our ecosystem; the world is full of movements that are asking for change: MATER is a musical meditation on environmental issues. My husband and I – always attentive to these issues – after living in various metropolitan areas, we have chosen to live in the open Marche countryside, where we can take care of our land, follow more natural rhythms and a less invasive lifestyle for the ‘environment. The hope, our hope is to preserve it, and to deliver it intact to our children, and to the children of their children, so that they too can continue to enjoy its extraordinary beauty.” – (OB)
